Photos by Simca Dobson
Originally from the midwest, Simca Dobson moved from Chicago out west to study architecture and visual studies at University of California at Berkeley. After Berkeley she started her film production career working at PBS’s affiliate in San Diego, KPBSbefore moving to Los Angeles/New York and freelancing in commercial, film and tv production. For ten years Simca had the valued opportunities of working along side of and learning from some of her professional heros: ...Wong Kar Wai, Sidney Lumet, Guillermo Navarro, Harris Savides, Dave Meyer, Robert Whitman, Sean Gullete... Her transition to photography ignited during her travels throughout southeast Asia where she reconnected with her own style of storytelling. She is inspired by dynamic colors, moments within movement, candid emotion, art, fashion, organic lighting, natural beauty and glimpses into humanity.
“No one is perfect. But we all have our moments... when our humanity and light dance together and we reflect something that is real, something that is raw, something that translates to any language. Those are the moments I try to capture.”
